Richard Ladyman – Executive Chairman

Throughout his professional career, Richard has been involved with the evaluation, design, construction and operation of mining & mineral processing operations, and associated services, including power supply, water supply, underground haulage, crushing, milling, concentration, refining, tailings disposal and accommodation facilities.

There would not be a mine site in Australia that Richard has not worked on in some capacity, and his expertise, knowledge and processing know-how is highly regarded and sought after both here and globally.

Tim Gooch – Managing Director

Tim is a qualified mining engineer with over 25 years experience in the industry. During his career he has worked on multiple commodities around the world including, gold, tin, diamonds and nickel in the UK, South Africa, West Africa, North America and Australia.

Roles have involved both operational management and corporate responsibilities including the construction and commissioning of new projects in Africa and Australia.

Tim Joined Como Engineers in 2008 and his experience enables the Company to fully understand all aspects of the our client’s needs as Como Engineers and the VDM Group move towards offering full consulting services to the mining and resource industry, complementing the metallurgical and mechanical expertise already widely used.

Martin Smith – Engineering Manager

In May 2006, joined Como Engineers as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and within a year was promoted to the position of Engineering Manager.
 
In the 4 years Martin has been at Como Engineers, he has worked on numerous projects including the development of the infrastructure requirements for the Moly Mines Definitive Feasibility Study which totalled approximately $450 million, the supply of electrowinning cells and pumps, the design and construction of a complete stripping plant, the refurbishment of 2nd hand mining equipment as well as numerous feasibility studies for a number of process plants. He was most recently the Project Manager for the successful $17M refurbishment of the Three Mile Hill Plant for Focus Minerals.
 
Martin is also registered in WA as a Responsible Person with the Department of Mines and Petroleum Resources Safety Division, to assess and approve dangerous goods storage and processing facilities within Western Australia.
 

Alisdair Finnie – Chief Metallurgist

Alisdair has been involved in the mining and construction industry for the past 15 years and has vast experience in the metallurgical industry, encompassing Nickel, Copper, Iron ore, Tantalum, Tin, Gold, Lead-Zinc, Mineral Sands and Uranium.
 
His expertise includes plant optimisation and commissioning, plant reporting and metallurgical accounting, project specification development and evaluation and mass balancing with equipment selection and sizing. 
 
Alisdair joined Como Engineers in 2006 as the Chief Metallurgist. His experience enables him to evaluate a client’s project and develop optimised process designs to meet these specific requirements.
 

Sean Galvin – Senior Mechanical Engineer

Sean has experience both in gold processing and copper SXEW extraction, with design, construction, project management and commissioning experience for these facilities. He also has a strong IT background, with experience in the design and installation of mine site communications infrastructure, including telecommunications, network backbone, kiosk IT systems, streaming satellite television and satellite radio re-broadcasting. Early experience has also been reached in GMP processing of cosmetic materials and work experience in the steel distribution industry.

Sean was most recently the Project Manager for the Challenger Mine Upgrade Project for Dominion Gold operations, and well as the manager responsible for the design and supply of our modular Gold Stripping plants, Modular Gold Rooms and Electrowinning Cells.

Grant Blakeman – Senior Mechanical Engineer

Grant joined Como Engineers in June 2007, having emigrated from South Africa. Since joining Como Engineers, Grant has been involved in a number of scoping, feasibility and definitive feasibility studies for copper, gold, nickel and iron ore projects. In addition to these studies, Grant has also been the project manager on the design and construction of a CIL pilot plant, as well as for the refurbishment of mechanical equipment for a nickel flotation plant.

Before immigrating to Australia and joining Como Engineers, Grant had been employed with Bonfiglioli Power Transmissions in South Africa for the previous 9 years in the positions of Engineer / Technical Manager

Grant’s engineering background; coupled with the skills he developed during his MBA, enable him to make good technical evaluations, while considering the economic impact decisions have on a project. Grant has utilized these skills in developing Capex models for the scoping and feasibility studies that he has been involved in while working at Como Engineers. Grant was most recently the Project Manager for the Lakewood Upgrade Project for Silver Lake Resources.

Gerhardt Oosthuizen – Lead Civil Engineer

Having worked throughout South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in leading Project Manager and Civil Engineer roles, Gerhardt specialises in developing and streamlining business procedures.

He has significant design, drafting and management experience in all aspects of the industry, backed by his numerous qualifications in areas including Business, Management, Education and Engineering.

Tom Van Loon – Principal Engineer – Melbourne Based

Tom’s experience in Project Management and Engineering includes demonstrated strengths in conceptual design, engineering, estimating, quoting, tendering, contract management, project management, manufacturing, construction and commissioning for a wide range of projects both within Australia and overseas including seven years as an expatriate in Indonesia and for projects in Papua New Guinea, Singapore, India and Philippines.

Tom has held Project Management and Senior Management roles in a number of significant companies including the VDM Group, BHP Engineering, BHP Minerals, Western Mining Corporation, Alcan Engineering, Esso Australia, Stork ICM Australia, Vickers Keogh, Gold Fields of Australia and Coal Division of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria.

At a corporate level, Tom has strengths in strategic development, business process re-engineering, systems development, procedure development, training and implementation, risk management and continuous improvement. Being based in Victoria gives our clients a direct East Coast contact and strengthens the national reach of Como Engineers.

 
Grant Harding – SE Asia Project Manager - Indonesia Based 
 
Grant is a qualified extractive metallurgist with over 25 years experience in the mining industry.
He has extensive operational, engineering and project management experience in Australia and internationally in Indonesia, Myanmar, Ghana, Tanzania, and The Philippines. 
 
He has experience in gold, silver, base metals and mineral sands projects with over 15 years operational and project development experience in Indonesia.
 
 
 
 
Gwyn Jones – Finance Manager

Gwyn is a Chartered Accountant with over 10 years experience in public practice and commerce. He has accounting experience in a diverse range of industries including the public sector, investment banking & engineering. 
 
In January 2008 Gwyn joined the VDM Group as a Finance Manager, specializing in the integration of new acquisitions. This in turn led to Gwyn joining Como Engineers where he has been able to demonstrate his skills in financial systems and financial risk management. 
 
Gwyn’s accounting qualifications, along with commercial experience, also enable him to provide clients with financial modelling. Most recently he assisted Bass Metals with their Hellyer Project.  
 
 
Niki Hall – Business Manager

In 2009 Niki joined Como Engineers as part of our Administration team and has been recently promoted to Business Manager. 

With over 10 years experience in customer service and formal training in Design & Photography; Niki use these skills ensure a professional approach to all Como Engineers publications. 

Niki is also responsible for co-ordinating Como Engineers marketing and advertising campaigns and provides a strong support to our clients and all at Como Engineers.
